WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University baseball team posted its fifth victory of the young season Saturday afternoon with a 7-4 non-league win over Elizabethtown.
Shenandoah (5-1) found itself down 4-0 after the Blue Jays (0-1) opened the contest with two runs in the first and two more in the fourth.
The Hornets, who had just one hit up to that point, then rallied off of E-town starting pitcher Sam Heaps in the bottom of the sixth.
Adam Delauter opened the frame with a single to center before
Kevin Brashears walked. After
Scott Lambert sacrificed both of them up 90 feet,
Jesse Henry drew another walk to load the bases.
Sophomore
Greg Van Sickler stepped to the plate and drove a ball to the deepest part of Bridgeforth Field for a three-run double.
Scott Van Dusseldorp, who would eventually close out the offense on the day with a solo home run in the eighth, tied the game for the hosts with a single to center.
One inning later, Brashears gave SU what proved to be the game-winning runs with a towering two-run HR off of Jays reliever Adam Hartzell (0-1).
Brashears blast, his first of the season, made a winner of freshman
Bryce Sears (2-0). Sears pitched 3.1 innings of scoreless relief before senior
Gage Levac earned his third save in as many appearances by recording the final five outs.
