HARRISONBURG, Va. - The Shenandoah University baseball team won its seventh straight game Wednesday night with a 22-7 non-league victory at Eastern Mennonite.
As with its two victories over the weekend, SU (9-1) had to rally for the victory over the Royals (2-4-1).
Trailing 7-0 after EMU posted a seven-run second, the Hornets stormed back with 11 runs in the fifth, two in the sixth and nine more in the seventh.
The game was halted followed the seventh due to the NCAA mercy rule.
SU sent 13 men to the plate in that fateful fifth, with
Kevin Brashears and
Greg Van Sickler driving in two and three runs, respectively, with doubles to right center.
Brashears had an RBI triple in his second trip to the plate three batters after
Josh Simons cleared the bases with a two-run HR.
Simons' dinger, his first of the year, was one of three the Hornets hit on the day.
Senior
Jasen Eberz blasted a pinch-hit grand slam in the seventh.
Junior
Jake Yocum (2-0) tossed six innings and allowed the seven unearned runs on four hits and four walks to pick up the victory. He struck out six.
