WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University wrapped up its 2010 fall
men's and women's tennis schedules with a non-league doubleheader
sweep over Hood College Saturday morning.
The Shenandoah men were 6-3 winners while the Hornet women
rallied for a 5-4 victory.
Both teams finish the fall with 2-1 records folllowing the
victories.
In the men's match, SU took a 2-1 lead following the doubles
portion with wins at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles and then clinched with
victories at Nos. 1, 4, 5 and 6 singles.
Julian Fehr, Vladimir Daskalov and Adam Bamberger were all
double winners.
Fehr and Paul Froeschle combined to win 8-1 at No. 2 doubles
before Fehr took out Bilal Syed 6-0, ret. at No. 4 singles.
Daskalov and Bamberger were 8-1 winners at No. 3 doubles and
each won in straight sets at Nos. 5 and 6 singles,
respectively.
The Shenandoah women also took a 2-1 lead following doubles but
found itself trailing 3-2 as Hood won at Nos. 1 and 5 singles.
The Hornets then roared back, winning at Nos. 2, 4 and 5 singles
to clinch the victory.
Freshman Carla Wong led the
women to the victory with wins at No. 1 doubles and No. 2 singles.
Wong and Briana
Malley paired up to win 8-4 in the top doubles match to put the
first point on the board and then Wong dispatched Laura Saad 6-0,
6-1 in singles.
Kelsey
Brewster, with wins at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles, also
won twice.
SU begins its spring seasons in late February.
