WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University men's tennis team opened its 2011 spring season Saturday evening with a 6-3 non-league victory over visiting Hood College.
Shenandoah (3-1) opened with wins in the top two doubles matches to open up an early 2-1 lead over the Blazers (0-4).
SU then clinched the match with victories at Nos. 1, 3, 4 and 5 singles.
Sophomore Adam Bamberger had the clinching win, topping Chris Papinsick 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 singles.
Junior Michael Milanov, Bamberger and freshman Vladimir Daskalov were all double winners.
Milanov combined with Dustan DeMello win to 9-8 (7-5) at No. 1 doubles before Milanov dispatched Carter Reitman 6-4, 6-3 in the top singles match.
Bamberger and Daskalov were 8-0 winners at No. 2 doubles over Bilal Syed and Papinsick. Daskalov took out Phil Yerby 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4 singles.
Shenandoah is back in action on February 26 in a non-league match against Division II Shepherd.
