WINCHESTER, Va. - Host Shenandoah University earned its second USA South Conference men's tennis victory of the 2011 season Friday afternoon with an 8-1 victory over Ferrum.
After SU (6-6, 2-1 USA South) took a 2-1 lead following the doubles portion with 8-2 and 8-4 wins at Nos. 1 and 3, respectively, the Hornets closed it by sweeping the Panthers in singles.
FC (3-8, 0-1) was forced to bump up all six singles players up a spot after No. 1 Chris Miller was forced to withdraw due to injury following his No. 1 doubles match.
Shenandoah then swept all six singles matches in straight sets to claim the victory.
Freshman Vladimir Daskalov had the match clinching win with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Cain Walter at No. 5.
Michael Milanov, Dustan DeMello, Tim Lutz and Julian Fehr were all double winners for the Hornets.
Milanov combined with DeMello to win 8-2 at No. 1 doubles before taking out Joseph Jensen 6-1, 6-1 in the top singles match.
Shenandoah hosts Frostburg State on Wednesday in a non-league match.
