Methodist Downs Volleyball in Five

WINCHESTER, Va. - Visiting Methodist University outlasted Shenandoah University for a 3-2 USA South Conference volleyball victory Saturday afternoon at Shingleton Gymnasium.

The Monarchs (7-1, 2-0 USA South) were 25-23, 16-25, 25-21, 21-25, 15-13 victors over the Hornets (5-3, 1-1).

Methodist led virtually throughout the fifth set, erasing a 4-3 deficit on the strength of a 6-0 run that included three service aces.

However, Shenandoah refused to fold its tent and scored two straight points with MU at the brink of victory. Unfortunately for the Shingleton crowd, Kayci Miller set up Jalesty Washington for the match clinching kill and 15-13 set five win.

Mary Harshman and Rachel Maki each had 14 kills for SU while Washington led all players with 17 for the Monarchs.

Harshman and Washington were also the story defensively, with 11 and 12 digs, respectively.

The Hornets complete the day with a 4:00 match against Averett.
