WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University men's tennis team opened up its 2012 spring season Saturday night with a 9-0 loss to Division II Shepherd University.
The Rams (5-2) won all six singles matches in straight sets after opening the night by sweeping the doubles over Shenandoah (0-1).
Shepherd lost just two games, both at No. 2 doubles, in taking the 3-0 lead heading into singles.
The DII Rams bookended 6-0, 6-0 victories at Nos. 1 and 6 singles with nearly equally dominating performances in the middle four singles contests.
Sophomore Jakob Curtis had the closest match, losing 6-3, 6-0 at No. 5.
Shenandoah is back in action on February 25 in a home non-league match versus Hood College. This match, like the one played Saturday evening, will be played indoors at Winchester Country Club.
