WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University men's and women's tennis teams dropped a pair of USA South Conference matches to visiting Greensboro College Friday afternoon.

The SU men fell 9-0 in their match before the Hornet women dropped a 5-4 heartbreaker.

After falling behind 3-0 at the conclusion of the doubles, the Shenandoah women (6-7, 3-4 USA South) won the four top singles matches to take a 4-3 lead with Nos. 5 and 6 singles still on the court.

Greensboro (5-9, 4-4) knotted matters at 4-4 with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 6 singles, leaving the No. 5 match between Hillary Cook and Kelsey Brewster to decide the team result.

Cook won first set 6-0 and was leading 5-0 in the second only to see Brewster win the next six games to take a 6-5 lead in the second.

Brewster had two set points, but Cook escaped both times to tie at 6-6 and then won the tiebreak at 3 to clinch the victory for the Pride.

GC won all three doubles matches 8-6.

Carla Wong was a 6-2, 7-5 winner at No. 1, Shannon Allin 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2, Kayla Green 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3 and Rachel Gross 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4 for the Hornets.

The GC men (4-9, 2-4) won at 6, 2 and 4, respectively in the three doubles matches and then took all six singles in straight sets.

Vladimir Daskalov had the closest match for SU (0-11, 0-4) with a 6-7 (7-9), 0-6 loss at No. 2 singles.

The Shenandoah men and women are back in action at home tomorrow against Averett.
