Men's Tennis Extinguishes Blazers

WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University men's tennis team earned its first victory in nearly two years Saturday night with a 9-0 shutout victory over Hood College.

Shenandoah (1-1) snaps an 18-match losing streak with the victory over Hood (0-5).

SU had not won since an 8-1 victory over on March 25, 2011 against Ferrum, but wasted little time ending that streak Saturday night.

The Blazers brought just four players to the match, giving Shenandoah a 3-0 lead before it stepped on the court due to forfeits at Nos. 5 and 6 singles and No. 3 doubles.

This meant that SU needed to win just two matches to clinch the win, and the Hornets accomplished that task with an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles and an 8-1 victory at No. 2.

Senior Michael Milanov and freshman Steven Baker had that win at No. 1 and then finished their night's with a identical 6-0, 6-0 victories in the top two singles matches.

Milanov downed Chad Love and Baker topped Luis Cotto; those four men also made up the No. 1 doubles contest.

Jeremy Parel won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3 and Will Leach 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 to complete the sweep.

Shenandoah is back in action at home next Saturday in its ODAC opener against Randolph.
