WINCHESTER, Va. - Visiting Emory and Henry earned its first ODAC men's tennis win of the season Sunday with an 8-1 victory over Shenandoah.
The No. 3 doubles duo of Brett Holmes and Kelly Sykes had the lone victory for Shenandoah (2-3, 0-3 ODAC).
Holmes and Sykes downed Jonathan Romano and John Hanlon 8-5 in that contest.
The Wasps (3-8, 1-3) won the remaining eight matches, but needed three sets to win at both No. 1 and No. 4 doubles.
Steven Baker battled back from a 6-3 loss in the opening set at No. 1 to win 6-1 in the second before Alex Minasyan took the point with a 6-4 victory in third.
Sykes, at No. 4, likewise took the second set. Romano, however, sandwiched 6-1 and 6-3 wins around a 6-4 loss to earn the point for the visitors.
The Hornets are in action on Thursday at McDaniel.
