Men's Tennis Drops Heartbreaker

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University men's tennis team completed its 2014 ODAC slate Sunday afternoon by dropping a 5-4 decision to Roanoke College.

Shenandoah (3-10, 1-9) opened by sweeping the doubles over Roanoke (8-5, 4-5) and looked to pull off the upset by earning two singles wins.

Unfortunately, senior Brett Holmes was the only SU player to emerge victorious in the singles, winning in a walkover over Nolan Webb at No. 6, and the Maroons were able to steal the win.

Two of the matches, at Nos. 1 and 2, went three sets with the Steven Baker and Dustan DeMello, respectively, forcing their opponents to win sets two and three to earn the point.

The matches at Nos. 3 and 4 were also close with Will Leach and Zach O'Neal falling by identical 6-3, 6-4 scores.

Shenandoah completes its season on Thursday with a non-league match at Southern Virginia.
