WINCHESTER, Va. - Visiting Virginia Wesleyan prevented Shenandoah University from earning its second straight ODAC victory with a 9-0 shutout of the Hornets Tuesday afternoon.
Despite the shutout loss, Shenandoah (3-8, 1-7 ODAC) battled the Marlins (12-3, 8-1) close throughout the match.
The three doubles matches were all within four games and the No. 3 match went 8-6 to VWC.
The No. 6 singles match, between Wes Licklider and Kyler Racey, was also close. Licklider battled back from a 6-4 loss in the opening set to win 6-3 in the second. Racey then closed out the shutout victory with a 13-11 win in the third set supertiebreaker.
SU hosts Randolph-Macon on Saturday in another ODAC contest.
