Men's Tennis Opens at ITA Regionals

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - The Shenandoah University men's tennis team opened play Saturday at the ITA Regionals with eight players playing in singles and doubles.

Junior Steven Baker headlined the group by playing in the championship singles bracket, where he fell 6-1, 6-0 to ninth seeded Kunal Wadwani.

Baker then dropped an 8-2 decision in the consolation round.

Playing in the B1 doubles draw, Baker combined with Jessie Ewing to win 8-2. Those two now move onto the quarterfinal round.

 

 

At B6 singles, Bill Bouweiri fell 6-0, 6-0 and Matt Hwang 6-0, 6-2 at B5.

Hwang paired with Blake Sharp at B2 doubles, where the duo fell 8-4 in the round of 16 before coming back to win by that same score in the consolation quarterfinal.

At B4 singles, Sharp dropped a 6-0, 6-3 decision to Christopher Magee.

Finally, Zach O'Neal lost 6-0, 6-3 at B7 singles.

Will Leach and Kelly Sykes rounded out the day with an 8-5 loss at B3 doubles.

The tournament concludes Sunday.
