Men's Tennis Wraps at Regionals

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - The Shenandoah University men's tennis team concluded its fall season Sunday afternoon with a number of strong performances at the ITA Regionals hosted by Mary Washington.

Junior Steven Baker and freshman Jesse Ewing, playing in the B1 doubles draw, saw their tournament come to an end with an 8-5 loss to Victor Costa and Christopher Magee in the quarterfinal round.

Blake Sharp had an excellent day by winning a pair of consolation matches at B4 singles. In the quarters, he took out Adam Halpern 8-2 before defeating Alex Machalick 8-6 in the semi-finals.

Sharp fell 8-5 in the consolation final.

Zach O'Neal and Bill Bouweiri also advanced to their respective consolation finals. O'Neal, playing at B7, won 8-3 in the consolation semis before losing 8-4 to Tyler Cook in his final.

At B6, Bouweiri was an 8-6 winner in the semis and an 8-5 loser in the finals.

In doubles, Sharp and partner Matt Hwang lost 8-1 to Lawrence Bowers and Trent Singleton in the consolation semifinals.

The spring season begins February 14 with a non-league home match against Hood College.
