Men's Tennis Shuts Out Hood

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University men's tennis team opened up its 2015 spring season Friday night with a 9-0 shutout victory over Hood College.

Playing indoors at Winchester Country Club, the Hornets (1-0) opened by dropping just seven games in sweeping the doubles point over Hood (2-2).

Kelly Sykes and Vladimir Daskalov got things started with an 8-1 win at No. 3 while Steven Baker and Jesse Ewing were 8-3 winners at No. 1 and Matt Hwang and Blake Sharp won at No. 2 by the same score as the Baker/Ewing duo.

Baker, with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles, set Hwang up to clinch the match with his 6-0, 6-0 victory over Phil Roedig at No. 4.

All but the No. 3 singles match were won by SU in straight sets. At No. 3, Ewing won 6-2 in the third after dropping the second 6-4.

Ewing opened his match against Alex Sexton with a 6-3 first set victory.

Shenandoah is back in action in two weeks with another Friday night indoor match, this one against McDaniel.
