ASHLAND, Va. - Host Randolph-Macon used a doubles sweep to key an 8-1 ODAC men's tennis victory over Shenandoah Sunday afternoon.
Macon (2-0, 2-0 ODAC) won three doubles matches in convincing fashion, dropping just three games combined at Nos. 2 and 3, to take the early lead over Shenandoah (0-2, 0-2).
Junior Steven Baker and freshman Jesse Ewing had the closest doubles match, falling 8-6 at the top spot.
In singles, Baker got the Hornets on the board with a 7-5, 7-6 (4) victory over Ryan Byrd at No. 1.
Unfortunately for SU, the Yellow Jackets swept the Nos. 2 through 6 matches to clinch the victory.
Both the No. 3 and No. 6 matches went to a third set as Blake Sharp won the second set at No. 3 and Zach O'Neal the first set at No. 6 for the Hornets.
Shenandoah continues this spring break trip with an ODAC match Monday at Virginia Wesleyan.
