Messiah Upsets Baseball

GRANTHAM, Pa. - Host Messiah College held No. 9/19 Shenandoah University to just four hits in a 5-1 non-league baseball victory Wednesday afternoon.

The Falcons (6-9) broke open a close game with a four-run sixth and four MC pitchers held SU to just two hits through the first eight innings on the way to the upset win.

Shenandoah (13-4-1) loaded the bases to start the ninth, but could not sustain the rally as Billy Arens struck out and then John Wilt hit into a 1-6-3 double play to end the contest.

Ryan Mossman and Joe Coleman, the Nos. 8 and 9 hitters in the SU lineup, had singled ahead of Arens' at-bat.

Ricky Pardo led off the frame by reaching on a hit by pitch.

Pardo, with a third inning single, and J.J. McDaniel, with a single to right center in the sixth, had the Hornets other hits.

Sophomore Tyler Hott (0-2) took the loss. He allowed five runs on six hits in 5.0 innings of work.

Hott had two strikeouts and Randy Tydings had three strikeouts in working the final three innings.

Shenandoah is now off until hosting Virginia Wesleyan Saturday in a noon ODAC doubleheader.
