WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University reached the .500 mark in men's tennis Tuesday afternoon with a 5-0 non-league shutout victory over Southern Virginia.
Playing singles matches first and only to decision because of threatening rainstorms in the northern Shenandoah Valley, SU (6-6) dropped just three games in winning five singles matches to clinch the match.
Matt Hwang, Will Leach and Zach O'Neal, playing at Nos. 4, 5 and 6, respectively, all won at love while Blake Sharp was a 6-0, 6-1 victor at No. 3 to put the Hornets one match from clinching.
Steven Baker, at No. 1, took care of that with a 6-0, 6-2 triumph over Dallin Evans in that top match.
Southern Virginia falls to 1-11 with the loss.
Shenandoah, now on a three-match winning streak, continues this homestand on Thursday with an ODAC match versus Bridgewater.
