CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Shenandoah University men's tennis team earned its first ODAC victory of the season with a 5-4 win over Hampden-Sydney Sunday evening.
Shenandoah (2-5, 1-2 ODAC) found itself down 2-1 after H-SC (1-5, 0-2) earned 8-2 and 8-4 wins at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles, respectively.
Steven Baker and Matt Hwang earned that doubles point for SU with an 8-0 victory over Patrick Bryant and David Anderson at No. 1.
Brett Dubin knotted the contest at 2-2 by taking out Anderson 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 singles before Baker won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 and Zach O'Neal defeated Bryant 6-3, 6-3 at No. 6.
Needing just one more win to clinch the victory, Hwang came through with a 6-1, 3-6, 6-0 triumph at No. 3.
Hwang's three-set win was one of three singles matches to be extended the distance. H-SC earned its last two points with three-set wins at Nos. 2 and 5.
Shenandoah returns to the court on Thursday with a 4 p.m. ODAC contest against Emory and Henry. This match is a doubleheader with the SU women.
