LYNCHBURG, Va. - Host Randolph College was extended into a third set in just one match on its way to a 9-0 ODAC men's tennis victory over Shenandoah Saturday afternoon.
Senior Steven Baker extended his No. 1 singles match into a third set for Shenandoah (4-9, 2-6 ODAC).
Playing Bradley Stober, Baker came out on the short end of an epic match as Stober was able to win tiebreakers in the first and third sets to take the victory.
The two men split the opening two sets by identical 7-6 scores with Stober winning the first set tiebreak 9-7 and Baker the second set, 7-3.
With the team result already decided, the third set went immediately to the 10-point tiebreaker. Stober won that 10-7, giving him the final point of the match.
Randolph (9-5, 4-4) won the three doubles matches 8-4, 8-2 and 8-2.
The Nos. 2 through 6 singles matches all were won in straight sets. Zach O'Neal, playing No. 4 for the Hornets, had the closest set in a 7-6 (9-7) first set loss to Q Manglapus.
Shenandoah continues this road trip with a Sunday ODAC match at Lynchburg.
