LYNCHBURG, Va. - Host Lynchburg College won four of six singles matches to rally for a 5-4 ODAC men's tennis victory over Shenandoah University Sunday afternoon.
Shenandoah (4-11, 2-7 ODAC) held a 2-1 lead following the doubles portion of the event thanks to 8-6 and 8-4 victories at Nos. 1 and 3, respectively.
Steven Baker and Matt Hwang combined for that win at No. 1 with Kelly Sykes and Bryan Harris teaming up for the victory at No. 3.
Now needing three wins in singles to clinch the match and virtually lock up a spot in the ODAC Tournament, Baker and Hwang quickly put SU on the brink of victory.
Baker dispatched Josh Johnson 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 while Hwang was a 6-4, 7-5 winner at No. 3 to put Shenandoah on top 4-1.
Unfortunately, Lynchburg (4-11, 2-5) had other ideas.
LC swept the remaining four matches and eventually clinched the victory with a three-set win at No. 4.
In that match, Andrew Link was a 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (8-6) victor over Sykes.
The No. 5 match also went three sets with Jordan Falinski defeated Zach O'Neal 7-5, 4-6, 6-3.
Shenandoah completes its regular season on Saturday with a 1 p.m. Senior Day contest versus Virginia Wesleyan.
