Men's Tennis Shuts Out Frostburg

WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University men's tennis team earned its first win of the 2017 spring season Saturday night with a 9-0 non-league shutout over Frostburg State.

Playing its second match indoors at Winchester Country Club, the Hornets (1-1) swept the doubles, winning at 8-1 at No. 1 and 8-3 at both No. 2 and No. 3.

The six singles matches went in straight sets, with sophomore Brett Dubin getting the match-clinching victory with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Marcus Bowers at No. 2.

Freshman Zach Frack put Dubin in position to clinch by winning 6-3, 6-0 at No. 4 to put coach Larry Hubbard's team just one point away from the win.

Junior Matt Hwang won 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1 after combining with Dubin for that 8-1 victory in the top doubles match.

The Hornets return to action on Wednesday, March 1 for their ODAC opener versus Hampden-Sydney. SU and the Tigers will play this match at the Boar's Head in Charlottesville.
