WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University men's tennis team earned its first ODAC win of the season with a 5-1 victory over Roanoke Friday afternoon.
Shenandoah (4-2, 1-2 ODAC) defeated Roanoke (0-8, 0-3) for the first time in since joining the league with two doubles victories and wins in the top three singles matches.
Playing inside at Winchester Country Club because of the poor weather, the match was played to decision. Following Matt Hwang's 0-6, 6-0, 7-5 victory at No. 1 singles that gave SU the match-clinching point, the No. 4 singles match was abandoned in the middle of the second set and the Nos. 5 and 6 singles matches were not played.
Brett Dubin and Darian Diaz were both straight set winners at Nos. 2 and 3 singles, respectively. Dubin defeated Jack Fishwick 6-1, 6-1 and Diaz took out Grayson White 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3.
In doubles, Hwang and Diaz won 9-8 (7-4) at No. 1 while Dubin and Evan Rosenberg were 8-0 victors at No. 3.
SU is back in action on Saturday versus Emory and Henry.
