WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University field hockey team will attempt to set a new program record for wins in a season with its ECAC Tournament semi-final round contest Saturday versus Alvernia.
Shenandoah, 15-4 and the tournament's No. 2 seed, takes on third-seeded Alvernia (11-9) Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
This game, along with Sunday's noon championship, will be played at Arnold Field on campus of Lebanon Valley College in Annville, Pennsylvania.
The host Dutchmen take on fourth-seeded Juniata at 11 a.m. in the first semi-final. Sunday's championship game is set for noon.
The Hornets have met Alvernia twice in history, in 2009 and 2010 when Shenandoah was a member of the MAC Commonwealth along with the Golden Wolves.
Alvernia won both of those contests, winning 6-0 in the 2009 contest played at AU and 4-1 in Winchester on October 16, 2010.
Shenandoah and AU have three common opponents this season: Lynchburg, Gettysburg and Hood.
SU was 2-2 versus those three schools, defeating Gettysburg, 4-1, in the season opener and Hood, 7-0, on September 11. Lynchburg swept the Hornets in two games, winning 2-1 in overtime on October 12 in Winchester and 2-0 in the ODAC Championship on November 9.
Alvernia defeated Lynchburg, 3-2 in a shootout on September 7, lost 3-2 to Gettysburg in overtime on September 11 and defeated Hood, 6-0, on October 19.
Sophomore
Kelsey Jones and senior
Taylor Hayes, both named first team All-ODAC this week, led SU in scoring. Jones has 41 points on nine goals and a nation-leading 23 assists with Hayes posting 15 goals and eight assists for 38 points.
Both women are also former ODAC Rookie of the Year honorees – Hayes in 2016 and Jones last year.
In the goal, junior
Isabella Morande backstopped the Hornets to their record-tying 15 wins with a 1.06 goals against average and five shutouts in 19 games played. She was also named ODAC Defensive Player of the Year.
Morgan Mondschein has 27 points for the Golden Wolves with Felicia Getz adding 21 points on nine goals and three assists.
Mondschein has 12 goals and three assists for her 27 points.
Emma Beamesderfer has played every second in goal for Alvernia and has 94 saves and a 1.57 GAA in 1260 minutes. She also has four shutouts.
