GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Shenandoah University baseball team has been honored for academic excellence in awards announced Wednesday by the American Baseball Coaches Association.

The baseball team, which won its second straight ODAC championship this past spring and its third-ever regional title, is one of 221 schools nationally and 60 in Division III to be honored by the ABCA with a Team Academic Excellence Award.

Team Academic Award winners had at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA for 2018-19 school year; Shenandoah's 66-man roster had a 3.21 GPA for the fall 2018 semester and 3.09 in the spring.

This is the third straight year that the team has been recognized by the ABCA.

Thirty-nine of the 66 members of the squad had at least a 3.0 GPA for the spring semester. Cody Harrell, Jack Witner and Tyler Kroll led the way with each recording a perfect 4.0 GPA.

The Hornets were the only ODAC team to earn this award.

"We are very proud of our team for earning this award once again," head coach Kevin Anderson said. "We continue prioritize our academics and earning this award for a third straight year shows the level of commitment our student-athletes have in the classroom."
