GRANTHAM, Pa. - Host Messiah University earned a 51-0 non-league men's wrestling victory over first-year program Shenandoah University Friday evening at Hitchcock Arena.
Competing in its first-ever dual match, Shenandoah (0-1) found itself down 18-0 before its first wrestler took the mat as SU forfeited to Messiah (1-0) at 125, 133, and 141 pounds.
IN BRIEF
The Falcons went on to record two pins, a technical fall, a major decision, and two decisions in the remaining six contested matches to help polish off the victory. The final bout of the match, at heavyweight, was a forfeit for MU.
Freshman Dylan Weaver had possibly the strongest performance of the match for SU in an 18-7 major decision loss to Brian Shermeyer at 174 pounds.
Shermeyer, a senior and two-time national qualifier, found himself in a tough match as Weaver battled back with a takedown and a two-point near fall early in the second period. The offensive points were the first of the night for the Hornets.
Shenandoah recorded its lone win of the night in an exhibition match at 149 pounds. Freshman Morgan Robinson, on the strength of a takedown, an escape and eight back points, was an 11-5 winner over Dalton Daugherty.
