LYNCHBURG, Va. – Shenandoah University posted four championships Friday on day one of the 2021 ODAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Emily Miller and
Kaitlin Measell won the steeplechase and the long jump, respectively, for the women with
John Kindig taking both the hammer and shot put for the men.

The two championships for each gender place both teams in second place after day one of the two-day event.

Tournament host Lynchburg leads both the men's and women's events.

On the men's side, Shenandoah has 48 points to 79 for Lynchburg. SU is 20 points clear of third place Bridgewater.

For the women, Shenandoah's 53 points is 11 better than third place Roanoke and 23 back of Lynchburg.

The SU women went 1-2-3-4 in the steeplechase with Miller's 11:36.35 besting
Erin Atkinson by just over a minute. Atkinson and third place finisher
Samantha Chambers both earn All-ODAC accolades for their performances.

Jennifer Macias was fourth for the Hornets.

On the men's side in the steeple,
Tyler McCarthy earned All-ODAC honors with a third place showing.
Jeremy Allinger backed him up by finishing eighth.

The shot put was the strongest showing for the SU men as Kindig won it with a 14.26 meter toss and
Wyatt Schannauer second at 13.56 meters.
James Knave gave Shenandoah a third scoring thrower with a 12.74 throw on his final attempt to finish fifth.

Kindig's 51.06 hammer throw gave him a second championship of the day with
Matthew Smith fifth and Knave seventh in that same event.

In the women's hammer,
Jamie Ryan was fourth.
Â
Measell had the squad's final win of the day with a 5.51 leap in the long jump. That mark came on her third of six attempts.

She will have a chance at a second ODAC title after posting a third place showing in the 100-meter preliminary.

Elsewhere in the preliminaries,
Miles Moore was second and
Andre Jackson fourth in the 100 meters. Moore had a 10.88 and he also finished sixth in the 200 prelim.

Elias McGhie qualified for the 400-meter hurdle finals with a third place showing while
Matthew Klocke qualified in both the 400 hurdles and the 110-meter high hurdles. He was fifth in the 400 and sixth in the 110 HH.

The final scoring came in the men's long jump and the women's 10000. In the long jump,
Jason White was seventh and
Aymar Bisseck eighth. In the 10K, Miller was fourth and
Rebecca Doran fifth.
