LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Shenandoah University men's basketball team earned its second ODAC victory of the season Saturday with a 76-72 win at Randolph College.
Â
Davion Roberts hit 1-of-2 from the line with three seconds remaining to clinch the victory for SU (3-10, 2-2 ODAC) over the WildCats (3-10, 0-5).
Â
IN BRIEF
Roberts' successful free throw, coming on his first attempt at that trip to the line, came immediately after Randolph missed a game-tying 3-point attempt with five seconds left.
Â
That miss went off the rim and out of bounds, giving the ball back to the Hornets. The 'Cats immediately fouled and put Roberts in position to ice the contest.
Â
Shenandoah had missed five of its previous six attempts from the line in the final 39 seconds as Randolph tried to steal the victory. The WildCats only were able to cut the deficit to three points, however, as they missed a layup and committed three fouls.
Â
The final moments capped a game in which the two teams traded the lead 11 times and were tied on five additional occasions. SU, which led by as much as 12 points in the second half, took the lead for good on a
Binwi Bihai layup with 14:21 remaining.
Â
A pair of
Matt Simmons free throws with 3:15 remaining put the Hornets up 72-64. Randolph then scored six of the game's next eight points to make the final 65 seconds interesting.
Â
Jaylen Williams led the victors with 25 points and Bihai had 10 points off the bench.
Â
Shenandoah shot 48 percent (28-of-58) to 43 percent for the 'Cats (25-of-57). Randolph had 36 of the game's 71 rebounds. The Hornets also were 15-of-28 (54 percent) from the field in the second half.
