WINCHESTER, Va. – Visiting Roanoke College outlasted Shenandoah University Wednesday evening to take an 80-71 overtime victory over the Hornets in ODAC men's basketball action.

Shenandoah (3-14, 2-6 ODAC) led for 73 percent of the contest but saw the Maroons (13-4, 5-3) score 12 of the 15 points in the extra session to pull away.

Trailing 68-66 after Nick Price made 1 of 2 from the line for the Maroons with 21 seconds left, SU tied it at 68-68 thanks to a
Jaylen Williams driving layup with 13 seconds remaining.

Following a timeout, the Hornets forced a turnover in the Roanoke backcourt and called a timeout of their own with four seconds remaining. Williams, the ODAC's leading scorer, again had the ball in his hands but was unable to get off a shot before time expired.

The Maroons converted a pair of driving layups for buckets in the initial 77 seconds of the overtime and held the lead for the remainder of the contest.

Shenandoah, which shot 38 percent (25-of-66) for the game, went cold in OT. The Hornets missed nine of its final 10 attempts from the field with
Marcus Taylor's 3-pointer at 3:29 the squad's only successful field goal.

All five of Roanoke's overtime field goals came on driving layups and it shot 72 percent (5-of-7) from the field in the final five minutes.

Deondre McNeill had a career high 23 points for the hosts in the loss with Williams adding 17 points. McNeill also had nine rebounds.

Kasey Draper led the visitors with 32 points and 17 rebounds.
NOTABLE
- The overtime game is the first for SU since an 88-81 loss at Marymount on Jan. 16, 2019.
- It is the second time in the last eight meetings that Roanoke and SU have needed overtime to decide the winner.
- On Dec. 10, 2015, Roanoke was a 107-98 winner in double overtime.
