Madison Gray Wins 800m at VMI Winter Relays

Gray's 2:22.31 Breaks Eight-Year-Old Record

LEXINGTON, Va.- The Shenandoah University men's and women's indoor track & field programs completed the second day of competition at the VMI Winter Relays Saturday afternoon.

First year Madison Gray set the tone on Saturday with a school record performance in winning the 800-meters.

The rookies' time of 2:22.31 was best in a field of 26 athletes filled with Division I competition and breaks a program mark that stood for eight years.

Shenandoah saw eight additional top-ten finishes after Gray rewrote the record book. 

On the men's side, William Crowder finished eighth in the men's 60-meter final with a time of 7.02 seconds. 

Two Hornets, Miles Moore and Ahmal Williams, placed in the top-10 in 200-meters with seventh and ninth place finishes, respectively. 

Jeremy Allinger was eighth in the 800.

The women's 4x400m relay, consisting of Alexis Hubbard, Mackenzie Plowman, Emma Nicely and Gray,  as a hair off the school record. Clocking a time of 4:22.87, the relay team placed nine.

In the field events, Wyatt Schannauer and Tucker Kindig scored points in the men's shot put. 

Schannauer's throw of 13.74 meters put him in the finals and a 5th place finish with Kindig following close behind at 13.73.

Hampton Cobb placed in the long jump; his mark of 6.53 meters placed him eighth out of a field of 35 athletes. 

Shenandoah recorded 14 additional personal bests on Saturday, bringing the meet total to 26 combined.
