WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University football team pitched its second straight home shutout Saturday with a 20-0 ODAC victory over Ferrum College.
Shenandoah (4-0, 1-0 ODAC) scored all of the points it would need by driving 74 yards in six plays on the opening drive of the contest.

Quarterback
Steven Hugney, who finished 16 of 24 for 144 yards and one touchdown through the air, finished off the opening drive with a 25-yard touchdown on 1
st and 10 from the Ferrum 25-yard line.
Hugney gained an additional 69 yards on five carries; he finished with seven carries for 56 (two sacks for negative 13 yards) and two touchdowns.
The Hornets took a 14-0 lead into the break as Hugney found
Caleb Reedy for a 2-yard TD pass with 1:50 to play before halftime.
Despite the rain largely holding off, Shenandoah went to the ground for the second half. The Hornets had 249 yards in total offense in the first half with 144 of that coming on 14 of 19 passing from Hugney.
In the second, Shenandoah had 23 rushes for 185 yards in the second half with Rashadeen Byrd, Jr. finishing with 131 yards on 18 carries and
Markell Jackson 97 on just 10 carries.
The Hornets had 10 of their 24 first downs in the second while equally splitting time of possession with the Panthers (0-4, 0-1).
The SU defense pitched that second straight shutout by turning Ferrum away three times inside the red zone including two forced fumbles in the fourth quarter.

Ben Burgan had 11 stops with
Matt Conroy,
Ahvyon Boothe, and
Quante Redd all making eight stops each. Boothe and Redd each had a forced fumble with Conroy and Boothe both making fumble recoveries.
This is the first time in program history that Shenandoah has had two shutouts in one season. The 4-0 start is also the first in program history.
