Men's Hoops Drops Road Tilt

St. Mary's of Maryland Wins 64-51

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The Shenandoah University men's basketball team completed its pre-Christmas schedule Saturday afternoon with a 64-51 non-league loss at St. Mary's of Maryland.

The Seahawks (4-3) scored 32 points in each half to dispatch SU (2-7) for the first time since Dec. 16, 2000.

IN BRIEF
Shenandoah had won three times over SMCM since the 'Hawks last win, including an 80-79 victory at SMCM on Nov. 15, 2018 in the last matchup between the two programs.

St. Mary's never trailed, getting the initial bucket of the game on a 3-pointer 27 seconds in, and after the Hornets tied the game at 7-7 following a Davion Roberts '3' at 17:36, led for the final 25:29 of the contest.

The Seahawks took that lead with two free throws at 15:31 of the first which also started a 10-1 for the hosts.

Shenandoah would cut its deficit to four points on two occasions, the last with 8:13 remaining in the first, before seeing SMCM end the half on a 13-10 run.

A big Seahawks run, this one 17-2 run from the 16:05 to 10:30 marks of the second, put the game away.

Gavin Bizyak hit one of two from the line at 10:01 to cut the margin to 19, but the SU would get no closer than 18 points until scoring 11 of the game's final 13 points over the last 4:06.

Roberts led the Hornets with 13 points with Binwi Bihai adding 11.

SU shot 34 percent (19 of 56) for the game with the 'Hawks shooting 49 percent (24 of 49) and owning a 40-27 edge on the glass.
