Guilford Tops Men's Hoops

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University men's basketball team had a cold shooting afternoon Saturday in a 56-39 ODAC loss to Guilford College.

Shenandoah (2-6, 0-2 ODAC) shot 24 percent (13 of 55) from the field Saturday as Guilford (7-2, 3-0) built an eight-point halftime lead and then expanded that advantage by an additional nine points over the final 20 minutes.

The Hornets missed fifteen of their first 16 shots from the field and saw the Quakers jump out to a 14-5 lead.

Sophomore Binwi Bihai found the bottom of the net on a step back jumper at 5:59, but GC would have an advantage it would not relinquish.

Coach Nick Doyle's squad continued to battle however, and was able to cut the Guilford lead to six points, 22-16, with 29 seconds remaining in the first. A Landon Russ 3-pointer to start the second brought the hosts to within five, 24-19, but SU would get no closer.

The Quakers hit a '3' of their own 90 seconds later to jump start a 13-0 run and were never threatened again.

Guilford led by double digits for the final 17:23 of the contest.

Russ and Bihai co-led Shenandoah with 11 points each with Davion Roberts and Joshua Stephen, the latter making his first-ever start, adding five rebounds each.

The Quakers shot 42 percent (22 of 52) with SU holding a slight, 36-35, edge on the glass.

Shenandoah is off until traveling to St. Mary's City, Maryland next Saturday for a 2 p.m. non-league contest at St. Mary's of Maryland.
