Track & Field Sweeps Weight Throw on Day 1 of ODAC Championships

Kindig breaks School, Facility, and ODAC Championship Records in event win

SALEM, Va. - The Shenandoah University indoor track & field teams wrapped up day one of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Indoor Championships on Saturday. 

The Hornets dominated the throwing circle with seven of nine throwers placing in the top-8 and scoring for their respective teams in the weight throw. 

Tucker Kindig set the tone for the meet with his top mark, 17.64 meters, not only earned himself the event championship title but broke the school, facility, and ODAC Championship records in the process. 

Kiara Felston earned her own gold in the women's weight throw just an hour after Kindig picked up his hardware. 

Wyatt Schannauer, Kaitlin Measell, and the Distance Medley Relay all earned a spot on the podium with bronze medals. 

Schannauer took third in the men's weight throw with a toss of 15.47 meters. 

Measell's long jump checked in at the 5.19 meter mark. 

The Distance Medley Relay consisting of Madison Gray, Emma Nicely, Mackenzie Plowman, and anchored by Erin Atkinson, crossed the finish line in the last event of the evening with a time of 13:27.37.

TEAM RESULTS 

Lynchburg owns first place in both the men's and women's team title chase. Lynchburg's men rounded up 47 points after day one. Shenandoah sits in fourth place with 24 points. 

On the women's side, SU has notched 29 points, sitting 21 points behind Lynchurg's Hornets.
