MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Shenandoah University track & field teams opened the outdoor portions of their schedules Friday with day one of the Myrtle Beach Challenge hosted by the City of Myrtle Beach.

After day one of the two-day competition, the Shenandoah men stand tied for 16
th with six points and the SU women are 17
th with four.

Millersville leads the women's event by one point over Howard with 46 points. On the men's side, former meet host Coastal Carolina, with 28 points, is also one better than Howard.

Tucker Kindig had the best finish for the Hornet men with a third place in the hammer throw. He had a best toss of 50.96 meters.
Matthew Smith was ninth in the same event at 42.47 meters.

Haley Van Voorhis and
Erin Atkinson had the top finishes for the women. Van Voorhis was fifth in the 800 at 2:37.22 while Atkinson had a sixth place showing in the 5000. She posted an 18:55.06.

Kiara Felston, in the hammer, had the remaining top 10. Her toss of 40.86 meters was good for 10
th place.
