Hornets Win, 5-4

WINCHESTER, Va. – Shenandoah University earned its first men's tennis victory of the 2021-22 season Saturday with a 5-4 ODAC win over Lynchburg.

Shenandoah (1-3, 1-0 ODAC) trailed, 2-1, after doubles before rallying with wins at Nos. 2, 3, 4, and 6 singles.

IN BRIEF
Lynchburg (1-2, 1-2) took that 2-1 lead after doubles thanks to a pair of 8-7 wins at Nos. 2 and 3.

Keith Orr and Gene Perle-Jones earned Shenandoah's first point with an 8-6 victory at No. 1 doubles.

Lance Dupuis got SU back to level with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 4 singles only to see Lynchburg again inch in front by winning at No. 1.

The two teams then split matches at Nos. 5 and 6, putting Lynchburg one victory from clinching.

The other set of ODAC Hornets never got it as Vitali Rivera and Gene Perle-Jones both gutted out three set victories to give the hosts the win.

Playing at No. 3, Rivera knotted the match at 4-4 with a 7-5, 3-6, 7-6 (7-2) victory over Cooper Brewen.

Perle-Jones completed the rally by taking out Andrew Freeman 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 at No. 2.
