WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University softball team opened up its busy weekend of play Friday by sweeping a non-league doubleheader from Mary Washington.
Shenandoah (7-11) was a 5-4 winner in eight innings in the opener before completing the sweep with an 8-2 victory over the Eagles (16-15) in the nightcap.

BayLee Jenkins singled home
Lily Richichi with two outs in the eighth to give the Hornets the extra inning victory.
Richichi knotted the game at 4-4 two batters earlier with a single up the middle to score placed runner

The two-run eighth made a winner of reliever
Kayla Stephenson. Stephenson (1-0) came on in the seventh and gave up two runs (one earned) on three hits.
Megan Scalley started and scattered five hits and three walks in six innings of work. She struck out three and one of the two runs she allowed was unearned.
Richichi had two of the squad's six hits and drove in a pair of runs.
Shenandoah rallied from a 2-0 deficit with two runs in the sixth. The two teams then traded single runs in the seventh to set up the extra-inning affair.

Courtney Moyer's squad left no doubt in game two, scoring two runs each in the first and second and then answering a two-run Mary Washington fifth with four of its own in the bottom of that frame.
Savannah Thorne pitched the initial six innings of the 8-2 win and gave up the two runs on two hits and four walks against six strikeouts. She improved to 2-0 this spring.
Hannah Maltos had a clean seventh to close out the victory.

Tiffany Bower both had three hits with
Arlene Miller adding two hits in four at-bats. McNeill, who had three doubles in the game, had three RBI with Whipple driving in a pair.
UP NEXT
Shenandoah hosts Roanoke Saturday in a 1 p.m. ODAC doubleheader. It is also the squad's ALS Awareness contests.
