Hornets Secure Two Championships on Day One

Both SU Squads Stand in Third Place

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Shenandoah University men's and women's outdoor track & field teams both stand third Friday after day one of the 2022 ODAC Championships.

The men, who had two champions on day one, have 42 points for their third place showing while the SU women have 48 points.

The Hornet men are two points back of Bridgewater. The Shenandoah women are seven back of championships host Lynchburg.

Lynchburg leads the men's championship with 51 points. Roanoke tops the women's with 61.

Shenandoah is six points clear of Washington & Lee on the men's side and 27 in front of Bridgewater on the women's.

WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
The women had three All-ODAC honorees on day one: Kaitlin Measell in the long jump, Jessica Rendfrey in the shot put, and Brooke Sandy in the high jump.

All three women finished second in their respective events. Measell had a 5.55 long jump, Rendfrey tossed the shot an even 11 meters and Sandy jumped 1.62 meters to grab the runner-up showing in the high jump.

Katya Hoover (10.66 meters) and Kiara Felston (10.36 meters) were fifth and eighth in the shot put to back up Rendfrey.

Alexis Hubbard, with a long jump of 5.0 meters, gave SU a second place winner in the long jump. She was sixth.

Erin Atkinson was fourth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, Emily Miller fourth in the 10K and Madeline Lotts eighth in the 10K to round out the women scoring results Friday.

MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
Shenandoah had a pair of champions in the throwing events with Tucker Kindig winning the hammer throw and Wyatt Schannauer the shot put. Kindig was second to Schannauer in the shot.

Kindig's 57.74 meter hammer throw set a new championships and ODAC record and is currently eighth in the nation.

Schannauer had a 14.94 meter shot put to Kindig's 14.04 to give SU the 1-2 finish. Jacob Young also scored in the event with an 11.96 toss that was good for eighth.

Matthew Smith and Young backed up Kindig in the hammer with fourth and eighth place finishes, respectively. 

UP NEXT

For field events, Shenandoah competes in the javelin, triple jump, and discus on Saturday. 

Starting off as the first event on Saturday, the nationally ranked men's 4x100m relay squad looks to secure a NCAA qualifying time. 

The 4x400 meter relay is the final event of the meet.

Miles Moore and William Crowder compete in the finals in the 100m dash for the men and Janelle Anderson for the women. 

In the hurdles events, Kyle Holliday qualified to race in the 110 meter finals and Elias McGhie and Matthew Klocke in the 400 meters. McGhie won the prelim.

The middle distance and distance athletes run the 800, 1,500, and 5,000 meter races.
