HIGH POINT, N.C. – No. 20/25 Shenandoah University plays for its fourth ODAC baseball title by taking on sixth-seeded Roanoke Sunday morning at Truist Park.
Shenandoah (33-10-1) advanced to the 10 a.m. championship with a 9-3 win over Bridgewater on Friday and a 5-4 triumph over Roanoke Saturday.
The Maroons (26-15), who upset third-seeded Randolph-Macon in the opening round best-of-three series, eliminated top-seeded Lynchburg Saturday night with a 2-1, 10 inning elimination game victory.
Roanoke had opened with the final weekend with a 15-3 victory over Lynchburg before losing the SU contest in walkoff fashion.
The Maroons 10-inning victory means that they would need to defeat Shenandoah twice to claim the 2022 title and accompanying NCAA Tournament berth.
Shenandoah is seeking its fourth title in nine championship seasons of ODAC play. The Hornets won the 2015, 2018 (claiming the title with an 8-4 win over Roanoke), and 2019 titles while also playing for the championship in 2014 and 2021. SU joined the league for the 2013 season.
Sunday's championship game will be the fifth time that Shenandoah and Roanoke have met in the ODAC Tournament. SU was a 4-2 winner in 2017, clinched the 2018 title with an 8-4 victory, won 11-0 to start the championship weekend in 2019 and won, 5-4, Saturday night to grab its spot in the championship contest.
Roanoke has one ODAC title in its history, in 2017, with that team ending up in Appleton as the South Regional champion. The Maroons program started in 2002.
Shenandoah and Roanoke have met 25 times dating back to 2007 with SU winning 15 of those contests. Prior to Saturday's win, the Maroons had won four straight in the series thanks to regular season sweeps in both 2021 and 2022.
Following the completion of play Sunday, the NCAA Tournament bids will be announced Monday morning.
