Women's Lacrosse Quarterfinals Preview

No. 3 Hornets Host No. 6 Randolph-Macon in Quarterfinals

FOREST, Va. -- Third-seeded Shenandoah University hosts Randolph-Macon tonight in a 7 p.m. ODAC Women's Lacrosse Tournament quarterfinal round contest. 

The Hornets (11-6) earned a first round bye after posting a 6-2 conference record while the Yellow Jackets own a 8-10 overall record and the sixth seed. 

Macon is coming off a 21-11 win over Bridgewater College in the play-in game on Monday night.

LAST MEETING

On April 13, SU rattled off its eighth straight win with a 19-13 home victory over Randolph-Macon

Thanks to an Ainsley Buckner from Reilly Cisar goal late in the first stanza, Shenandoah knotted the score 3-3 after the first 15 minutes of play. 

A five-goal run to start the second quarter enabled the Hornets to pull away from the Yellow Jackets. 

Buckner and Cisar connected once more to give SU a 10-7 lead heading into halftime. 

Macon would cut the deficit to two goals on three occasions early in the third before another SU run, this one 4-0, put the hosts in total control with a 16-10 lead by 13:35 mark of the fourth.
 
R-MC would get no closer than four goals the rest of the way.
 
StIffler had a game-high nine points on five goals and four assists with Emily Onorato adding three goals and two assists and Cisar four goals and one assist.
 
Eight different women registered at least one point each in the win.
 
Shenandoah outshot Macon, 44-23, and had an 18-9 edge in groundballs. R-MC had a 19-16 edge in draw controls.
 
SU goalkeeper Ashley MacFarlane made six saves.

TIDBITS

As the third seed, Shenandoah earned a first-round bye. 

Randolph-Macon has the slight edge in the series history, recording seven wins in 13 meetings. 

Shenandoah has a three-game winning streak over the Yellow Jackets and is 4-2 at Shentel Stadium.
