WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced the 2022 football schedule Wednesday morning.
The 2022 season is the program's 23
rd campaign since restarting the program in 2000 and the 10
th under the direction of Head Coach
Scott Yoder. The Hornets defend home turf in weeks two, five, seven, eight, and ten. Homecoming is Oct. 1 as Shenandoah hosts Ferrum for a 1 p.m. kick.
That game with the Panthers is part of a homecoming doubleheader at Shentel that sees the SU men's soccer team host Roanoke at 6 p.m.
For the third time in five seasons, Shenandoah takes on Methodist in the opening game of the season. The Sept. 3 contest is the first time the Hornets have played at Methodist since a 44-33 victory to open the 2018 campaign.
SU opens its home slate on Sept. 10 in a 7 p.m. non-conference game against North Carolina Wesleyan.
Shenandoah participates in the ODAC/USA South challenge on Sept. 17 on the road against Maryville College in Maryville, Tenn. This is the team's longest trip of the season and closes out non-conference play. SU has won two straight over the Scots, including a 7-6 win in Maryville on Oct. 9, 2010.
Following the homecoming game versus Ferrum, SU travels to ODAC rival Bridgewater for a 2 p.m. Saturday game on Oct. 8. The last time the Hornets and Eagles played, the Hornets won 34-27 after facing a 24-0 deficit in the first half.
Shenandoah gets back-to-back ODAC home games in weeks seven and eight as Guilford and Randolph-Macon travel to Winchester. Both games are set for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
On Oct. 29 the Hornets journey down to Danville, Va. to welcome the Averett Cougars to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. The Cougars officially join the ODAC on July 1. The 1 p.m. game is the first between the two programs since 2011 and Shenandoah owns an 8-4 edge in the all-time series.
Senior day is set for the final home game which takes place on Nov. 5 against the Hampden-Sydney Tigers. The Hornets travel to the reigning ODAC co-champions, Washington & Lee Generals, for the final regular season game of the season on Nov. 12.
Season tickets for the 2022 season will go on sale one week from today, Wednesday, July 6. Season parking passes and tailgating passes will also be available. As a reminder, all ticketing again will be digital this year.
