WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University baseball program, winners of the 2022 ODAC Championship, announced its 2023 schedule Tuesday morning.
The Hornets, who hosted the 2022 NCAA Winchester Regional, play in Winchester for 17 of their first 18 games of the campaign.
Shenandoah begins the season with three doubleheaders on three straight Saturdays in February. SU opens the season with Widener on the 11th, Misericordia comes to town the next week before the Hornets open up a three-game weekend when Lebanon Valley takes its swings at Bridgeforth Stadium on the 25th.
Single games against Marymount and Mt. Aloysius take place next on the schedule. Shenandoah is a combined 23-2 against the Saints and Mounties at home in program history.
The second-ever Mr. V Memorial Classic is scheduled for Mar. 3-5 at Bridgeforth. Cortland (N.Y.), Oswego State (N.Y.), and Susquehanna join SU as the participants in the classic. Oswego State returns last year's inaugural tourney.
The Hornets play their first ODAC doubleheader of the season when Hamden-Sydney travels up to Jim Barnett Park on Mar. 11. SU jumps right back to non-conference play with perennial power Salisbury on Mar. 13.
The lone road game in the first 18 games comes on Mar. 15 when the University of Mary Washington hosts Shenandoah. The Hornets round-up that 18-game stretch at home against Nichols College and in an ODAC doubleheader versus Guilford.
Back in conference play now, the Bridgewater Eagles host SU on Mar. 22. The Eagles will be in Winchester for their second meeting with the Hornets on Apr. 11.
Shenandoah goes to Averett University on Mar. 25 for a doubleheader. Averett is in its first year as a member of the ODAC. The Hornets and Cougars were conference foes when both universities were members of the USA South.
Finishing up the month of March is a pair of single games against Eastern Mennonite at home and on the road against Dickinson College.
The Virginia Wesleyan Marlins travels to the Hornets on Apr. 1. Last year's trip down to the beach saw a doubleheader where game one had Coach
Kevin Anderson winning his 700
th game and game two ended in a tie due to darkness.
Shenandoah hosts senior day on Apr. 4 when the Elizabethtown Blue Jays fly into Winchester for a 4 p.m. first pitch. SU travels to Washington & Lee the next day for a midweek ODAC game.
On Apr. 8 the Hornets play the Roanoke Maroons in a doubleheader. The Hornets defeated the Maroons twice in the 2022 ODAC tournament including a 13-0 victory in the championship game.
After the second meeting with Bridgewater, SU takes trips to Randolph-Macon and Penn State Harrisburg. The Hornets are then home for their second meeting with the W&L Generals on Apr. 19 at 4 p.m.
The final home game is a doubleheader against the Lynchburg Hornets on Apr. 22. These two teams have met seven times in the last two years with SU winning four of those meetings.
Shenandoah closes out the regular season on the road against York College, Eastern Mennonite, and Ferrum. The Hornets play the Spartans and Royals on Apr. 24 and 25, respectively. The battle with the Panthers is a doubleheader on Apr. 29.
All doubleheaders will be played on Saturdays at noon with all weekday games starting between 3 p.m. & 4 p.m.
