WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University men's and women's indoor track & field teams returned to action Sunday by hosting the annual Kaye and JJ Smith Invitational at the James R. Wilkins, Jr. Athletics & Events Center.
The Shenandoah women had two wins to help itself to a second place finish with the SU men earning one victory on its way to a fourth place showing.
MEN'S RECAP
The Hornet men had 81 points to easily outdistance Stevenson for fourth place. McDaniel, with 113 points, was the men's winner.
Tucker Kindig won the weight throw with a facility record 19.06 meter toss. His new mark came on the fifth of his six attempts. Kindig was also second in the shot put at 14.71 meters.
Jacob Young was fifth in the weight to back up Kindig.
The men had three runner-up showings in addition to Kindig's shot put. Miles Moore, in the 60 meter dash, and William Crowder, in the 200, had the two individual runner-up finishes. The final one came in the 4 x 800 relay consisting of Elias McGhie, Reed Davis, Ethan Harrower, and Zachary Hurd.
The men ended the day with 24 personal bests.
WOMEN'S RECAP
Shenandoah posted 112 points in its runner-up showing to perennial league power Washington & Lee. The Generals won the event with 158 points.Â
SU was 30 points clear of third place Bridgewater.
Kaitlin Measell, with a 5.19 meter posting on her first long jump, won that event with Alexis Hubbard third at 4.80 meters.
Kiara Felston made it a clean sweep for the Hornets in the weight throw thanks to her 16.05 meter winning toss. This throw, like Measell's long jump win, came on her first attempt. Andrea Decker was fifth and Oliviai Wheatly seventh in the event.
Felston, like Kindig, had a runner-up performance in the shot put. Her 11.27 meter toss was 10 centimeters better than teammate Katya Hoover.
Measell, Haley Van Voorhis, and the 4 x 800 relay squad of Mackenzie Plowman, Erin Atkinson, Emma Nicely, and Amy Oleksy gave the women three additional runner-up finishes along with Felston's shot put.
The women had 13 personal bests.

Shenandoah is back in action this coming Saturday at the Collegeville Invitational hosted by Ursinus College.
