Track and Field Sets 19 PRs in Final Tune-Up Before ODAC Championships

PENN LAIRD, Va. - The Shenandoah University indoor track and field programs competed in their final meet prior to the conference championships with the Rockingham Collegiate Classic on Friday.

Jaimir Bailey won the men's triple jump with a mark of 12.88m, setting a new personal best, and now has the seventh-best performance in program history. Mekhi Mims was the only other Hornet to compete in a field event today, hitting 1.85m in the high jump to place ninth.

Myah Powell-Utley advanced to the women's 60m dash finals with a third-place finish in the prelims, finishing at 8.20 seconds. In the finals, Powell-Utley ran 0.02 seconds faster to finish fourth overall. Both times bested her previous best, which was 8.33 seconds. Additionally, her time in the finals puts her seventh all-time for SU.

SU had Nathan Lee wrap up in third in the men's 800m with a time of 1:59.83, which is the fifth best all-time for the Hornets. Kyle Corpin had a program top-10 time in the race, finishing at 2:00.69 for seventh place. Jack Micco set a personal best in the 800m and the mile.

The women's 800m saw Amy Oleksy place fourth with a 2:26.63 performance. Emily Bultema ran a 2:34.80, surpassing her previous best of 2:36.61.

In the men's 5,000m, all seven of the Hornets in the race placed inside the top 10, with four setting PRs. Brenden Maloy had the best finish, placing second at 16:45.12. Sebastian Berrios finished in third, running a 16:47.73, with Isaac Clarke in fourth at 16:58.92. Finishing at 17:29.60, Ethan Beaugez earned fifth. Tyler Mullen (17:36.17), Bryce Scholz (17:42.66), and Corey Christensen (17:48.35) finished in three consecutive spots, seventh through ninth.

Running in the men's 400m, Jaidan Cameron ran a personal best of 53.96 seconds to wrap up in fifth. Demorris Eubanks narrowly missed out on the men's 60m dash finals, placing ninth in the prelims with a time of 7.27 seconds. Although he missed out on the finals, Eubanks still set a personal record in the event.

The final women's event of the day for SU saw three Hornets compete in the 3,000m. Emilie Gaudron placed fifth at 11:22.98, Arial Crawford sat in 11th with a 11:59.92, and Catherine Cottrill ran a 12:15.82 for 13th. All three women set new personal records in the race.

The day rounded out for Shenandoah with the men's 3,000m. Brayden Shotwell had the best placement for the Hornets, placing third at 9:11.95, which is a PR and puts him ninth all-time. Caleb Beiswenger ran a 9:35.11 for sixth place. Shane Lyons (10:31.33), Theo Beyer (10:51.29), and Jack Baker (10:53.58) closed out the day for SU in the event, as Baker set a PR.

Overall, Shenandoah set 19 personal records and 18 top 10 finishes on Friday.

Shenandoah competes in the ODAC Indoor Track and Field Championships next weekend. The two-day meet starts on Saturday at Roanoke College.
