HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hornets quickly jumped out to a cool 15-0 lead with baskets from
Shawnise Campbell,
Maddie Kimble,
Emily Williams and
Kayla Maxson, before the Cougars would finally get on the board with a free throw at the 4:05 mark left in the first quarter. That would be all the Hornets needed to pull away from Averett as Shenandoah would use a 9-6 run to close out the first quarter up 24-7.
Kayla Maxson would drill a three off an assist from
Sydney Shepos before Campbell would cash in on two more layups, sandwiched around a pair of
Zoe Starr free throws.
The Hornets started slowly in the second quarter, but still had a comfortable 16
-point lead before the first basket of the stanza would fall with 7:01 remaining in the period.
Emily Williams would take the pass from
Maddie Kimble and cut through the defense for the easy layup.
Terese Greene would then pick up an offensive board and convert a layup and the and one to increase the lead to 21 with just over six minutes to go before the half. With the Cougars attempting to make a run to get back in the ball game, the veteran presence of
Shawnise Campbell and
Kayla Maxson would give the Hornets a 36-18 lead heading into the break.
Out of the break, the Cougars would quickly hit back-to-back triples to pull back within 12 points. However,
Maddie Kimble would capitalize on a deep ball of her own to end the threat.
Emily Williams,
Shawnise Campbell, and

As the fourth quarter went on, the Hornets continued to build their lead.
Kiersten Hostetter would pull up from just inside the three-point line and hit nothing but net for her first basket of the game, increasing the Hornet lead to 31 points at 70-39. With
Meredith Lloyd running through the Cougar defense after getting the ball from a
Mya Martin rebound, Lloyd would draw the final Cougar defender towards her, before finding a wide-open
Madison Clay for the easy layup. Hostetter would pick up the final basket of the game for the Hornets before
Brynna Nesselrodt would convert two free throws to give Shenandoah the 76-49 win.
