SALEM, Va. – Both Shenandoah University indoor track & field teams are in the top five Saturday after day one of the 2023 ODAC Indoor Championships.
The Hornet men, with one championship, stand fifth with 22 points, while the SU women also have one championship on their way to 26 points and a fourth place showing.
Lynchburg leads the men's competition and Washington & Lee the women's.
Both SU championships came in the weight throw with
Tucker Kindig winning for the men and
Kiara Felston for the women.
MEN'S RECAP
Kindig won his second straight indoor title in the weight thanks to an 18.91 meter toss on his second attempt. He won by nearly a meter and
Jacob Young fourth after tossing it 16.05 meters.
The distance medley relay team of
Reed Davis,
Matthew Klocke,
Elias McGhie, and
Noah Hurd finished fifth and
Elijah West sixth in the long jump to round out the Hornets scoring results Saturday.
In the preliminary events, Klocke qualified fourth for the 60-meter hurdles with an 8.79 and
William Crowder,
Miles Moore, and
Andre Jackson all qualified for the finals in the 60-meter dash. Crowder was second, Moore seventh, and Jackson eighth.
WOMEN'S RECAP
Felston set both ODAC and program records in destroying the field in the weight throw. Her championship-winning toss of 17.11 meters was nearly two meters clear of her closest competitor and is a facility-best mark for Division III athletes.
The women had two other All-ODAC performances Saturday with
Kaitlin Measell finishing third in the long jump and the distance medley relay team of
Madeline Lotts,
Amy Oleksy,
Mackenzie Plowman, and
Erin Atkinson doing the same in their event.
Andrea Decker was eighth in the weight to back up Felston.

The championships conclude Sunday. Action begins at 11 a.m. with the pole vault.
