Maroons Pull Away from Men

Roanoke Wins, 82-66

WINCHESTER, Va. – Visiting Roanoke College broke open a close game with a strong second half on its way to an 82-66 ODAC men's basketball victory over Shenandoah University Wednesday evening.

Leading just 39-35 at the break, Roanoke (18-5, 11-3 ODAC) outscored Shenandoah (6-16, 3-10) by 12 points over the final 20 minutes to secure a sweep of the regular season series between the two schools.

IN BRIEF
The Hornets battled the Maroons over the initial stanza, swapping the lead five times and tying the game on six additional occasions.

The game was last tied with 1:10 to play as Malik Jordan, who led the hosts with 25 points, canned a jumper to make it 35-35.

Roanoke answered back on its ensuing trip down the floor, and after SU turned it over with 27 seconds left, Efosa U-Edosomwan had a stickback with two seconds remaining to give the visitors that four-point halftime lead.

The Maroons continued this run to start the second, scoring the first four points and six of the initial eight to seize control of the contest.

Shenandoah would come no closer than three points the rest of the way.

After SU cut that deficit to three on a Jordan free throw at 12:51, Roanoke reeled off a 13-0 run over a span of 2:52 to push its lead into double-digits for the first time. The Maroons kept it there for the final 10 minutes and coasted home to the 16-point victory.

In addition to Jordan's 25, Davion Roberts had 17 points for the hosts.

Kasey Draper, who made 9 of his first 11 shots, had a game-high 33 for Roanoke. He was one of three RC players in double figures.

Shenandoah shot 40 percent (22 of 55) to 55 percent (28 of 51) for Roanoke and saw RC grab 35 of the game's 64 rebounds.
