MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Shenandoah University outdoor track & field teams opened up their seasons Friday with day one of the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational hosted by the City of Myrtle Beach.
SU competed in the women's javelin, men's hammer, and the men's and women's 10K Thursday and the men sit third after scoring eight points and the women are fifth after scoring three.
MEN'S RECAP
Graduate student
Tucker Kindig, who earned All-America honors last week at the NCAA Indoor Championships, transitioned to the outdoor season by finishing fifth in the men's hammer throw.
Kindig had a 53.35 meter throw on his second attempt of the day to finish fifth overall and first among non-DIII competitors. He bested 24 competitors from either NCAA Division I or Division II.
Matthew Smith was 14
th and
Jacob Young 23
rd in the same event.
In the 10K,
Reed Davis was sixth,
Tyler Smith 15
th, and
Patrick Maneval 17
th with Davis recording a 33:37.32.
WOMEN'S RECAP
The women also scored in the 10K thanks to
Madeline Lotts finishing sixth with a 39:32.89.
Allie Clarkson was 14
th and
Makenna Thrush 15
th to back up Lotts.
Katya Hoover and
Emma Nicely rounded out the SU competitors on day one by finishing 13
th and 40
th, respectively, in the javelin throw. Hoover's best toss was 35.61 meters.
