WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University men's tennis team continued its most successful season in program history Tuesday with an 8-1 ODAC victory over Bridgewater.
Shenandoah (11-4, 6-2 ODAC), which had not won more than nine matches in a season in the university era (1991-present) earned its 11
th win in the past 12 matches by dominating Bridgewater (2-14, 1-8) from start to finish.
IN BRIEF
The Hornets swept the three doubles matches, winning 8-2 at No. 1, 8-1 at No. 2 and 8-5 at No. 3.
In singles,
Artem Babaiev won at love at No. 2 to put SU one point from victory before
Jovan Cirkovic, Babaiev's partner at No. 1 doubles, won 6-1, 6-0 in the top singles match.
Dominick Suwak was a 6-2, 6-1 victor at No. 3 and
Keith Orr 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4 to put Shenandoah up 7-0. Suwak and Orr had previously teamed up to win at No. 2 doubles.
The final two singles matches both went into a third set with
Jonathan Clippinger winning 5-7, 7-6 (7-5), 1-0 (11-9) at No. 6 and
Brenton Baugh falling, 7-5, 6-7 (0-7), 0-1 (7-10) at No. 5.
Baugh and Clippinger were the victorious No. 3 doubles tandem.
