GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Shenandoah University men's tennis team extended its winning streak to seven matches Sunday by gutting out a 5-4 ODAC win at Guilford College.
With the match tied at 4-4, Shenandoah (7-3, 3-1 ODAC) saw
Artem Babaiev win, 6-2, 5-7, 7-6 (7-4) at No. 2 singles to clinch the win over the Quakers (5-6, 3-2).
IN BRIEF
Babaiev was down 6-5 in the fifth but forced the tiebreak by breaking his opponent to win the sixth game and then took the tiebreak, 7-4.
The first-year was in position to post the match-clinching victory as Dominic Suwak and
Keith Orr had earned victories at Nos. 3 and 4 singles, respectively.
Suwak was first off the court in singles, winning 6-0, 6-1 before Orr followed right behind with a 7-5, 6-3 victory at No. 4.
In doubles, Babaiev and
Jovan Cirkovic were 8-3 winners at No. 1 and Orr combined with Suwak to win, 8-4, at No. 2.
